Materials
Benchmark is committed to being an extension of
your supply chain, while bringing the leverage of our global
resources to ensure that your flexibility, service, and cost
expectations are fulfilled.
Materials Overview
The global Benchmark Electronics Supply Chain organization
coordinates the material support functions for its 17 manufacturing
sites globally. Through its company wide & global commodity teams,
Global Procurement database, and strategic supplier relationships,
Benchmark is able to offer in-depth commodity analysis, flexible
supply chain strategies, personal service, and aggressive world
class material cost.
Commodity Teams
Benchmark’s commodity teams are cross-divisional, cross
functional teams that address all of the major material and service
groups utilized within the company. These teams facilitate the
instant feedback of global market conditions and trends that allow
the type of rapid response & horizontal deployment necessary to
ensure a world class cost structure, while still supporting dynamic
production requirements. The commodity teams furthermore facilitate
the selection of strategic suppliers, preferred suppliers and new
supplier evaluation. It is by the selection of our commodity teams
that preferred suppliers are chosen, and recommended to our design
engineers, and our customers for new designs, sustaining or End of
Life. These recommendations strengthen our supplier partnerships,
which further help to improve our flexibility, service, and total
cost during the life cycle of our customers’ products.
Global Procurement Database
Benchmark’s Global Procurement database is a key enabler that
provides the ability to leverage our total materials spend across
all of our 17 locations worldwide. The database provides for the
analysis of historical, current, and forecasted material
commitments. This provides the ability to aggregate & leverage the
total global usage by an individual manufacturer’s part number, by a
given supplier, or by a specific commodity. This data also helps the
commodity teams to monitor and track total spend within a commodity,
and those key supplier partners that support the various product
groups. The capture of our world wide material activities also
allows Benchmark to level load or utilize excess inventories across
our global sites, thus improving our flexibility while reducing the
liability & costs to our customers.
Strong Supplier Base
Benchmark purchases from over 2,000 suppliers, world wide, and
has material agreements with over 250 suppliers. Our strong supplier
relationships & management of them also allow us to call on the
expertise of our suppliers within their markets. These relationships
allow us to work better with our preferred supply base in bringing
the best total value to our customers.
